Come To Kids Arts Day!
This Saturday is our Kids Arts Day and we’ve got a full day of fun and educational activities for the kids!
The Ugandan Orphans Choir is going to be here and we’ve got tons of activities planned!
Museum volunteers have spent the last few weeks making several hundred beanbag chicks to be given as prizes to children who complete in our variety of art activities this Saturday.
Among the projects children engage in are:
Caterpillar marionettes
Hide-and-seek color scratch drawings
Picasso cubist masks
Fruit sculpture with real fruits
Broccoli forest printmaking
Theater games with Sherry Schreck’s Short Shakespeareans
Watercolor whimsy
Pattern perfection using sponges and paint
Tropical sunset painting
Sculpture using pre-cut shapes to create tall “buildings”
“The purpose of Kids Arts Day is to give families ideas for art projects they can do using inexpensive items they can find around the house,” museum education coordinator Selina Danko said. “We want to help get kids thinking about art.”
Plus the Ugandan Orphans Choir will be performing a concert from 1 to 2 p.m.
They are touring the western U.S. with the mission of building a bridge between concerned people in the West and children in the developing world by sharing the hopeful and joyful expressions of Ugandan music and dance with audiences who may be compelled to make a difference in the lives of children around the globe.
Kids Arts Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, or $4 for museum members. The museum is located at 127 S. Mission Street in Wenatchee. For more information call 888-6240 or visit www.wvmcc.org.
