Martin Luther King, Jr. Multicultural Fest: Eastmont Marimba
Throughout the month of January we will be virtually sharing the rich and diverse cultural of the Wenatchee Valley in celebration of our annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Multicultural Fest. We hope you enjoy this video highlighting Eastmont Marimba!
Eastmont Marimba began in 2014 with a group of 4th and 5th grade students representing all elementary and intermediate schools in the Eastmont School District under the direction of Vinny Lee. The charter group of students voted on the name Bonga Marimba which means “Wildcat” in the Shona culture of Zimbabwe, in Africa.
Today, Eastmont Marimba consists of two marimba bands. The talented students rehearse twice a week after school and enjoy performing whenever they can. They wouldn’t be able to survive without their parents and Eastmont School District for supporting the marimba program and helping them achieve their goals!
