SUMMARY:MakerSpace: Sugar Skull Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, October 30 for a Sugar Skull Making Workshop. Calaveritas de azucar\, or Sugar Skulls\, are often left on Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) altars for children who have passed. The skulls are often decorated with bright colors as a whimsical reminder of the cyclicality of life as opposed to a morbid symbol. While plastic or paper sugar skulls can be easily made at home or bought at the store\, the original sugar skulls were made of sugar. In this workshop you will learn about how to make and decorate your own sugar skull. Each participant will be provided with materials to make and decorate two sugar skulls. \nThere are two workshop time slots available: 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM or 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM \nCost is $8 Museum members and $12 non-members. \n10:30 AM – 12:30 PM  REGISTER HERE \n1:30 PM – 3:30 PM REGISTER HERE \nAll in-person events follow current state and local health and safety guidelines. We ask all attendees to respect the health and wellness of others. Masks and social distancing are required indoors when not eating or drinking. SUMMARY:Drop-In MakerSpace: Altar Making
DESCRIPTION:Drop by the Museum between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm on Saturday\, October 30 to create a photo frame to place on your own altar or on a community altar. During the program\, you will have the opportunity to learn a little of the history and traditions behind the Día de los Muertos Altar and receive instructions on how to build your own with items you have around the house. All materials for making your own photo frame will be provided; while supplies last.
