SUMMARY:Wellington Train Disaster - Caravan Tour
DESCRIPTION:On March 1\, 1910\, the deadliest avalanche in North American history swept down the snowy Cascades\, burying two trains and killing 96 people. \nThe Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center invites you to the Wellington Train Disaster Lecture & Caravan Tour on May 30-31. \nOn Saturday\, May 31\, at 9 AM\, join us for a guided caravan tour of the Wellington Site\, where patrons will personally commute to each stop on the tour. At each stop\, our expert guide will uncover the storied legacy of the Great Northern Railway Company\, visiting several historic sites between Leavenworth and Stevens Pass. \nParticipants will receive a detailed itinerary by email\, complete with a map and Google Maps pins for easy navigation. Cost per car is $75 for members and $95 for non-members. Registration is required. \nJOIN THE WAITLIST \nTour-goers will arrive at the Nason Creek – US 2 Rest area at 9 AM for the first stop. The caravan will head west on U.S. Highway 2\, stopping for discussion at different points of interest. The final stop is the interpretive site at Wellington\, where participants will have lunch and take a half-mile walk around the area of the disaster. From there tour goers part ways and head home. DESCRIPTION:Travel back in time as you explore the Historic Homes Tour! \nEnjoy this self-guided tour highlighting homes and properties listed on the Wenatchee Register of Historic Places\, and get a rare glimpse into historic landmarks that are generally not open to the public. \nOn Saturday\, May 31\, at 10 AM\, the journey begins at the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center\, where guests will pick up their official tour bracelet and guidebook at the front desk. As patrons tour each property on their own. Volunteers will be at each stop sharing their historical research with tour visitors. \nProperties featured on the tour:\nWetherald Home – 216 S. Miller Street\nVradenburg Apartments – 207 Yakima Street\nManchester Home – 500 King Street\nHaynes-Roehl Home – 1217 Pershing Street\nHome of Peace Mausoleum – 850 S Miller Street\nWells House – 625 Nelson Avenue\nAt 4 PM\, the day will conclude with an exclusive reception for WVMCC members and Historic Homes Tour homeowners. Refreshments will be provided and guests will receive one complimentary drink token\, with additional drinks available for purchase. \nGeneral Admission is $30. Pre-registration is required.
