SUMMARY:Science on Saturdays: Owl Pellet Dissection
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the MakerSpace during the month of April for Science on Saturdays. Saturday\, April 9 is Owl Pellet Dissection. Owls swallow their prey whole\, but cannot fully digest some items such as bones and teeth. These indigestible items are then compacted into a pellet that the owl spits out. We can learn a lot about owls and their diets by dissecting these pellets. In this Science on Saturday program\, you’ll be able to dissect an owl pellet and investigate for yourself what they ate. You’ll begin to identify the indigestible pieces left behind in the pellet and learn to categorize them. These pellets have been sterilized so that we can have safe fun learning the science behind owl pellets.  \nThis class is recommended for kids 10 and up. Each child needs to have an adult present. Preregistration is not required\, but encouraged as there are a limited number of spots which will be filled first-come\, first-served while supplies last.   \nCost is $5 for members and $8 for nonmembers \nThis class will be offered at 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM \nREGISTER HERE

Come meet the author and learn more about this local story that changed the course of history. \nThe US Supreme Court’s 1937 decision in West Coast Hotel v. Parrish\, upholding the constitutionality of Washington State’s minimum wage law for women\, had monumental consequences for all American workers. It also marked a major shift in the Court’s response to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal agenda. In Making Minimum Wage\, Helen J. What about paper you can later plant to grow into flowers? Join us to learn how to make your own seed paper using recycled items and nature! You can make this paper decorative by using spices for color\, lavender for the smell\, dried leaves\, and vines for added texture. You can make the paper into cards and later plant it in soil. Watch the science behind these seeds as they germinate and grow!   \nJoin us for a beginner’s experience on homemade paper. The museum will provide all the materials and instructions to create a few different types of paper.  Each child needs to have an adult present. This is one of the prettiest science experiments you will ever do! Using recycled plastic\, CD’s\, wire\, heat and other recycled items\, you’ll create a beautiful flower garden. Randy\, flutist Arnold Cleveland\, and geologist Nick Zentner will captivate the mind and soul in this presentation.\n\nThis documentary tells the stories of the Wenatchi Tribe through the legends\, history\, and geology of North Central Washington as told by Randy Lewis\, and captured by North Central Washington film students. “The Winter’s Tale” is a directed film study program reaching across the Wenatchee Valley and across cultures.\n\nThis family friendly event has limited in-person seating. SUMMARY:Cannon Mine Talk
DESCRIPTION:Did you know there was a gold mine in Wenatchee? \nThe Cannon Mine was a joint venture of Asamera Minerals\, Inc. & Breakwater Resources LTD.  The mine was a major producer of gold and the second-largest underground gold mine in the United States. \nIt produced 1.25 million ounces of gold and 2 million ounces of silver.  In 1994 the underground mining operations were closed and the mine was “plugged.” \nJoin us on May 17 at 7:00 pm for a special presentation about the Cannon Mine by Diane Groody.  Diane was one of 2 Asamera geologists on the original exploration crew that came to look for gold in 1981. She stayed after the discovery\, through the development and operation of the mine until 1989 as the Underground Operations Geologist. She supervised the drilling\, sampling\, and mapping at the mine\, gave input on ground and grade control\, and calculated the reserves and royalty payments. She was the first and only woman mine geologist in the USA at the time. \nThis event is part of our Legendary Locales exhibit and is free for museum members.  Click here to register.

DESCRIPTION:Yoga Basics with Dianne \nWednesdays June 1\, 8\, 15\, and 22 at 10 am. \nWells House 801 Nelson Ave (located on the Wenatchee Valley College Campus) \n$40 for four-week series/members $50/non-members \nImprove your flexibility\, balance\, strength\, and relaxation using basic yoga postures and breathing techniques while enjoying the charm of the Wells House.  We will be outside on the lawn of this historic house. \nDianne McCammon will lead this small\, adults-only yoga series. Yoga Basics is slower-paced and focuses on developing a clear and safe alignment of fundamental postures. This series of classes is designed for beginners\, those recovering from injury or anyone wanting to refine their current practice. Come learn\, play\, and maybe even break a sweat in a supportive environment. All bodies are welcome. \nDianne is certified at the 500-hour level with Yoga Alliance and is a Registered Yoga Therapist with International Association of Yoga Therapists. \nPlease bring your mat and water. DESCRIPTION:Join the Wenatchee Valley Museum on First Friday in June to experience Geology\, Storytelling\, Photography and Music! The Museum will be open with free admission during extended hours from 4 to 8 PM on the First Friday of each month. Free admissions will also be offered all day on the Saturday following First Friday for Family Saturday. \nIn June we are hosting Timothy Connor\, writer\, photographer and geology buff in an exhibit presenting his new book\, Beautiful Wounds: A Search for Solace and Light in Washington’s Channeled Scablands. We will present a selection of photography which are featured in the book. Timothy’s journey follows the footsteps of J. Harlan Bretz who theorized correctly about the Missoula Floods over 100 years ago. The Exhibit will run from June 3rd through August 6th\, 2022. Photography will be for sale. \nIf you haven’t seen our new featured exhibit Legendary Locales/ Lugares Legendarios now is a great time to experience it. This exhibit examines the geological forces that created our local land marks and the stories rooted in native lore that bring together characters and lessons into memorable and entertaining anecdotes. \nWe are also pleased to be hosting Sharon Stearnes once again for a concert on the museum’s Liberty Theater Wurlitzer pipe organ. She will be playing a large selection of music sure to delight people of all ages\, including some Disney tunes. DESCRIPTION:Join us as we partner with Wenatchee Pride in centering and celebrating LGBTQIA2S+ culture and community during Pride month at A Dragtastic Event on June 17 from 8 – 10 PM. See your favorite drag queens doing what they do best in this fun celebration. You must be 21 to attend.\n\nDrag queens have existed since ancient times: male stage actors performed female roles all around the globe\, from Greek drama to Japanese kabuki. William Dorsey Swann\, a formerly enslaved African-American\, is the earliest-documented person to describe themselves as a ‘drag queen’. In the 1880s in Washington DC\, Swann began hosting cross-dressing events that he and his male guests referred to as ‘drags’. Among his friends\, Swann became known as ‘the Queen’ because of his role as the leader and organizer of these gatherings.\n\nIndividual tickets are $25/members and $30/non-members. VIP tables seating 4 are $125/members and $135/non-members\, and tables seating 6 are $175/members and $185/non-members. Students from all nine of the state’s educational service districts (ESDs) participate in this artistic celebration each year. The finalists from these regional ESD shows are invited to participate in the Superintendent’s High School Art Show. \nOne of the award winners is Anessa Hanson from Wenatchee High School. Her painting is titled “Sunflower Meadow.” Her teacher is Reed Carlson. \nCome to the Museum to see Anessa’s painting along with all the other award winners from across the State of Washington.

Yoga Basics is slower-paced and focuses on developing a clear and safe alignment of fundamental postures. This series of classes is designed for beginners\, those recovering from injury or anyone wanting to refine their current practice. Come learn\, play\, and maybe even break a sweat in a supportive environment. All bodies are welcome. \nSign up for all 4 sessions or decide to come that morning\, you have the option.  Walk-ins are welcome.  If you preregister for all 4 sessions\, the cost is $40/members and $50/non-members.  If you don’t want to commit to all 4 and would rather decide weekly\, the cost is $15/session.  Please bring exact change or a card and we will register you before class.  You can also sign up online. \nDianne is certified at the 500-hour level with Yoga Alliance and is a Registered Yoga Therapist with International Association of Yoga Therapists. \nPlease bring your mat and water. A national award-winning journalist with a passion for nature photography\, his writing unfolds the story as the camera illuminates the path. The photography captures the sweeping horizons\, braided wetlands\, and a surprisingly vibrant wilderness. HIs book is on sale at the museum gift shop. Registration is free for museum members and $15 for non-members.\n\n\nThe museum’s second floor rotating gallery currently features an exhibit presenting Connor’s new book\, Beautiful Wounds: A Search for Solace and Light in Washington’s Channeled Scablands. It displays a selection of photography which are featured in the book. Timothy’s journey follows the footsteps of J. Harlan Bretz who theorized correctly about the Missoula Floods over 100 years ago.
