SUMMARY:The Mini Quest Tavern: The Arcane Rift
DESCRIPTION:Huzzah! The Mini Quest Tavern returns! \nJoin unlikely heroes as they fight the perils of the Lich King at the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center! \nOn May 9 & 10 at 7 PM\, join Glorb the Goblin\, Fred the Farmer\, the Mighty Ron\, and the Barbarian Vriska as they clumsily\, I mean\, heroically\, fight evil (for money of course). \nWhat sort of show is the Mini Quest Tavern? The Mini Quest Tavern Is a scripted play\, with costumes\, props\, sound\, and projections to help the audience imagine the locations in the story as the performers move through the room. There is a funny “DM” or Dungeon Master who tells the story\, introduces non-player characters and presides over the action and decisions being made. His word is law\, but if you are familiar with the “Dungeons and Dragons” rule book\, don’t expect this show to contain all the detailed rules and mechanics used in normal tabletop roleplaying. We have a whole campaign\, and multiple combat encounters planned to complete in under two hours. We are here to entertain and make you laugh and cheer. Our simplified rule set is geared for the enjoyment of complete novice and experienced player alike. \nThe show is not for small children\, but great for teens and adults. Tickets are restricted to ages 10 & up. \nVIP Player Tables are $27 per patron and General Audience Tables are $17 per patron. Ticket prices will correspond with table seating. Pricing will be cheaper at the door compared to buying tickets online\, but seats won’t be reserved or guaranteed.\n\nThe VIP Player Tables will choose the hero who will be their avatar in the show from a selection of ten different characters. They will be given character sheets for their hero\, and the player tables will then work together to make choices when they are presented\, and roll dice to use their talents and skills in battle.\n\nGeneral Admission ticket holders will sit at separate tables and will have the opportunity to help name characters and places\, and vote on the paths the story will take. \nThe hero characters do not have scripts. They improvise their actions\, reactions\, battles and dialogue with the help of the players who tell them what to do. There are 14 talented local actors in this production. Fans of the show are welcome to attend in costume\, but a costume is not required. \nBeer\, wine\, soft drinks and game night snacks will be available for purchase. \nLearn more about what the Mini Quest Tavern has to offer here. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:2024-25 Film and Speaker Series presents: Homelessness
DESCRIPTION:The 2024-25 Film and Speaker Series presents: Homelessness and the Meaning of Home \nThe Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center is honored to have University of Washington professor Josephine Ensign discuss the socio-economic complexities of homelessness on Thursday\, May 8\, 7-9 PM.  \nLoss of a home due to financial difficulties\, divorce\, illness\, or natural disasters like wildfires is a growing problem. Often seen as an urban issue\, homelessness also affects suburban and rural areas in Washington State. What are the historical roots of homelessness\, and what lessons can we learn? What does home mean to us\, and how can we apply these meanings to address homelessness in our communities? Author and professor Josephine Ensign leads a values clarification exercise with individual writing time. She shares her research on the history of homelessness in Seattle and discusses what these stories teach us about the current crisis throughout our state and country. \nThis lecture is free to everyone. Pre-registration is recommended and can be found here. \nThe 2024-25 Film and Speaker Series is sponsored by Gesa Credit Union. This speaker event is brought to you by Humanities Washington.

SUMMARY:Silent Film Nights: The Last Laugh
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy timeless classics in this brand new film series! \nThe Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center invites you for a screening of the silent film The Last Laugh\, featuring a lecture from Wenatchee Valley College Professor Hart Johnson and live music on the Wurlitzer pipe organ by Thomas Kozina on Friday\, April 25\, 6-8 PM. \nOriginally produced in 1924\, this chamber-drama centers around a nameless hotel doorman\, who is fired after he’s deemed too “old and unfit” to promote the hotel’s image\, resulting in a rapid downward spiral. Chamber-dramas are short plays that focus on the psychology of lower- to middle-class characters\, avoiding the use of title cards in between scenes in order to have the visual storytelling speak for itself. \nThis event is the second of a 3-part series focused on the work of German Expressionist filmmaker F. W. Murnau\, who pioneered the early silent film era in Germany. \nHart Johnson is a Humanities Professor at Wenatchee Valley College. He teaches film studies\, mythology\, and other humanities courses. Professor Johnson has a passion for film and is excited to be working with the Museum on this unique film exhibition series. \nStarting at 6 PM\, this program will begin with a 15-20 minute lecture by Professor Hart\, followed by Kozina’s live musical accompaniment to the screening. Afterwards\, there will be a short Q&A session where guests can ask questions to both Hart and Kozina. \nAdmission is $5 for members AND students\, and $7 for non-members. Pre-registration is recommended. Beverages for sale\, including beer and wine for those 21+. Popcorn will be provided. \nRSVP HERE \nStay tuned for future film announcements by subscribing to our email list here!
