SUMMARY:Sewapalooza: Spring Break Classes
DESCRIPTION:Spring Break Classes: April 3rd – 6th\nCombining sewing with electronics\, students in these two classes will be using sewing machines\, conductive thread and hand sewing techniques to create wearable gadgets that light up\, play sounds and move. Make an electronic circuit with interesting light effects using sewable LED lights and a programmable board. Then keep sewing your circuit skills and techniques to choose from many soft circuit projects\, from light-up superhero capes and stuffed animals to purring animal pillows and plushie game controllers. \nTwo separate classes are offered; one for grades 3-5 and another for grades 5-7. Class sizes have been kept small to ensure the highest quality of instruction. The older class will pursue more advanced sewing techniques than the younger class. DESCRIPTION:Trivia Night @ The Museum\nFriday\, March 30\n6:00 PM – 9:00 PM\n$1 per person \nPut on your thinking cap for a casual evening of trivia for local history buffs\, culture gurus and museum lovers from 6 to 9 p.m. Bring your friends and meet some of the smartest people around. Test your knowledge of museum exhibits\, Wenatchee valley history\, natural science\, music and current events. \nThere will be six rounds with five questions each. Each round will have a different theme. At the end of the round\, each team will submit their answers for the questions asked and the scores will be tallied. A great way to prepare for this special trivia night is to visit the museum and check out its Facebook page. \nBring a group (up to six people per team) or come alone and enjoy snacks\, drinks and a win-the-pot prize during this friendly competition. Cost is $1 per person. Wine and beer will be available for purchase. Trivia night will take place in the performance center of the historic museum building at 127 S. DESCRIPTION:“A River Film” is a story about people\, and how they have\, over many years\, constructed a relationship with a river to support the needs and aspirations of many users\, while working to maintain the environment that supports those differing priorities.\n\n\n \n\n\nThe central player in the story is the river\, but the story can’t be told without a focus on the people of the region. Their story concerns complex relationships with other people\, fish\, and the wider Columbia Basin. The uniqueness of the Okanagan/Okanogan Basin involves the fact that all this happens within a watershed that is regulated by two political entities across a US/Canada international boundary. Therefore\, this story is also about the effects of a regulatory scheme across an International border on a watershed that supports a wide range of economic and ecosystem uses.\n\n\n“A River Film” is an annual story. As the years repeat\, the story of the river unfolds in a pattern. The film’s theme is universal\, concerning everyone involved. The story is positive and inspiring.\n\n\n \n\n\nTrout Unlimited Washington Water Project sponsors the film. Series sponsors are Trust for Public Land\, Chelan Douglas Land Trust\, Wenatchee River Institute and the Wenatchee Valley Museum. Wenatchee Valley Medical Group sponsors free children’s activities. The event features a no-host bar\, free popcorn and treats.

Please RSVP if possible by calling (509) 888-6240 or by clicking here. \n\n\n\nIn his 41 years of service to the Museum\, Bill has been instrumental in the installation\, preservation and maintenance of the original Liberty Theater Pipe Organ.\n\n\n\n\nAbout the organist\, Sharon Stearnes\n\nSharon was staff organist at the Tacoma Pizza & Pipes starting in 1983. She played there for 16 years before the restaurant was lost in a fire in August 1999. She also played at the Bellevue Pizza & Pipes restaurant from 1987-1992 and at the Seattle Pizza & Pipes from 1984 until it closed in about 1989. \nSharon was the organist for the Seattle Mariners from 1985-1990. \nShe currently works for Aflac as an Associate Sales Coordinator and plays the organ at the Gig Harbor United Methodist Church \n\n\nAbout the Organ\nSince the organist first accompanied the musical comedy Chin Chin during the grand opening of Wenatchee’s Liberty Theater in December of 1919\, the museum’s Liberty Theater Wurlitzer Pipe  \n\nOrgan has provided entertainment and wonderful memories for generations of theatergoers and museum visitors. Originally installed to provide sound effects and music for silent films and vaudeville performances\, even after the introduction of “talkies” in the late 1920s organists continued to play musical interludes during stage productions\, matinees and other events well into the 1940s. The organ was moved to the museum in 1988-89. With its 10 ranks of pipes and two keyboards\, the Liberty Theater Pipe Organ can reproduce the sounds of a full orchestra and a large number of special effects. From auto horns to xylophone — a variety of instruments and sounds including clarinet\, bass drums\, cymbals\, sleigh bells and horses’ hoof beats are at the fingertips of the organist. The wooden shutters above the chamber windows open and close\, providing volume control and emphasis to the particular sounds from each chamber. \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Local history comes alive at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center on Saturday\, Feb. 24 and Sunday\, Feb. 25 with the annual People of Our Past program. Five actors will portray real characters whose lives contributed to the development of the Wenatchee Valley. Characters will perform short monologues and occasionally interact as their lives intersect in 1905 Wenatchee. \n\n\n\nThis year’s characters are community builder Belle Culp Reeves (Emma Standerford)\, town sheriff and theater owner Ed Ferguson (Jeff Heminger)\, pioneer farmers Dora and M.O. Tibbits (Peter Kappler and Megan Kappler) and developer Arthur Gunn (David Harvill). Veteran Cynthia Brown is directing the show this year. The main floor performance area will be decked out to show the excitement of playing a part in the 1905 Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in Portland. Chelan County promoters pulled out all the stops to portray the Wenatchee Valley as a sunny utopia ripe for farming and business ventures.”\n\nFour performances are scheduled. The 10 a.m.\, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday shows are by donation. A ticketed gala event at 6 p.m. Saturday includes historically themed food\, wine and live music. Tickets are $40\, or $35 for museum members\, and may be purchased HERE.

SUMMARY:Regional Robotics Tournament
DESCRIPTION:FIRST Lego League teams from throughout North Central Washington will converge on Clovis Point Intermediate School Saturday\, Dec. 9 for the FIRST Lego Regional Robotics Competition. The Wenatchee Valley Museum\, in partnership with Apple STEM\, FIRST Washington\, GWATA\, the Rutherford Family and the Eastmont School District are co-hosting. It is the first year a regional tournament has been planned for the valley. \nChelan-Douglas School Retirees Association and the Alcoa Corporation are tournament sponsors. \nAhead of the tournament\, student teams develop their individual robot based on the Lego EV3 Mindstorms system. The robots are designed and programmed to address specific challenges issued by FIRST Lego League national contest organizers. Teams also are judged on a research project related to a themed challenge. The research project is always based on a current world issue. This year’s theme is Hydrodynamics\, the Human Water Cycle. Judges also observe how the team members adhere to FIRST Lego League’s core values related to professionalism. \nThis is the second year the Wenatchee Valley Museum has sponsored a competition team. The Holographic Cats are coached by Lara Hays\, Karen Rutherford and Bob Straub.

SUMMARY:Christmas Family Fun Day
DESCRIPTION:Catch the holiday spirit at the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center with family crafts and activities during Christmas Family Fun Day on Saturday\, Dec. 2\, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Museum staff and volunteers will lead several craft activities. There will be refreshments and Christmas music\, and guests are welcome to browse through the Museum Store for economical holiday gifts. \nChildren and their parents can write a letter to Santa and have photos taken with Santa. Craft options include making beaded snowflakes\, popcorn-cranberry garlands\, evergreen swags\, refrigerator magnets\, decorating salt dough holiday shapes and pine cone ornaments. This year there will be an option of making fleece hats that will be donated to social services organizations in the community with missions to support those in need. \nAdmission is $10 per family. \n\n

DESCRIPTION:Live music\, dancing\, crafts and festive food marks Day of the Dead celebrations from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday\, Nov. 1 at the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center. The event\, sponsored by Columbia Valley Community Health\, is free and open to the public.\nVisitors will have a chance to learn about this important Mexican holiday tradition of honoring the dead and see beautiful displays designed to memorialize deceased family members. \nDay of the Dead is a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. Traditions associated with the holiday include creating altars decorated with sugar skulls\, marigolds and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed. \nIn Brazil\, the holiday is known as Dia de Finados and is marked by visits to cemeteries and churches. In Spain\, the day is marked by festivals and parades\, graveside observances and prayer for dead loved ones. \nThe museum also is hosting a free altar workshop from 9 am to noon Wednesday\, Nov. 1 for those interested in creating Die de los Muertos altar. Pre-registration for the workshop is required. \nCommunity members are invited to create an altar to honor loved ones and set it up at the museum beginning Oct. 23. DESCRIPTION:Put on your thinking cap for a casual evening of trivia for local history buffs\, culture gurus and museum lovers from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday\, Oct. 27. Bring your friends and meet some of the smartest people around. Test your knowledge of museum exhibits\, Wenatchee valley history\, natural science\, music and current events.There will be six rounds with five questions each. Each round will have a different theme. At the end of the round\, each team will submit their answers for the questions asked and the scores will be tallied. A great way to prepare for this special trivia night is to visit the museum and check out its Facebook page. \nMuseum curator and trivia co-director Melanie Wachholder sees the trivia night as a great way to make new friends\, learn more about local history and show off what you know.“We will have a mix of questions\, some will be focused on our local history.” Wachholder said. “We want people to come in and test their knowledge on all sorts of subjects!” \n“We will have a mix of questions\, some will be focused on our local history.” Wachholder said. “We want people to come in and test their knowledge on all sorts of subjects!” \nTrivia night will take place in the performance center of the historic museum building at 127 S.
