SUMMARY:Environmental Film: My Garden of a Thousand Bees
DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Thursday\, February 9th for our Environmental Film Series! This month we have My Garden of a Thousand Bees! This is free to members and $5 for non members. \nAbout the film:\nMy Garden of a Thousand Bees follows acclaimed wildlife filmmaker Martin Dohrn\nduring the COVID-19 lockdown of spring and summer 2020\, as he becomes bee obsessed and\ndevelops relationships with individual bees. Filming more than 60 species of bees\, from Britain’s largest\nbumblebees to scissor bees\, which are the size of a mosquito\, Dohrn observes how differences in behavior set different species apart from each other. Eventually\, he gets so close to the bees\, he can identify individuals just by looking at them. \nThank you to our sponsors: Chelan – Douglas Land Trust & Wenatchee Outdoors\nThank you to our Partners: Wenatchee Confluence Rotary\nRotary District 5060\nWashington Master Beekeepers\nWenatchee Valley Bee Supply \nRegister Here \nThere will be a no-host bar\, free popcorn\, and treats!

SUMMARY:Speaker Series: C6 Forest to Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, March 9th at 7 PM as we partner with\nThe Land Trust for our Speaker Series “C6 Forest to Farm. \nLecture Details: \nC6 Forset to Farm\, Reducing wildfire risk by converting biomass to biochar.\nChallenge? Wildfire. A century of fire suppression has left our forests dry and full of unprecedented\namounts of biomass – providing fuel for extreme wildfires. Add climate change\, with hotter temperatures\nand longer summers\, and we’re now seeing forests being destroyed by wildfires at an accelerating rate.\nIn the US\, wildfires burn 8 million acres per year – an increase of 250% since the 1990’s\, and account\nfor approx. 8% of greenhouse gas emissions.\nWhat is Biochar? A solution. Biochar\, made from small diameter trees (the fuel for extreme wildfire) will\ncreate a market for biomass that previously had no value. This will increase the pace and scale of small\ndiameter tree thinning and reduce wildfire risk. Reduces wildfire risk\, fights climate change\, and\nsupports regenerative agriculture.\nMission: Advancing forest health restoration to reduce the risk of extreme wildfire in the Pacific\nNorthwest.\nNonprofit that uses innovative science-based solutions to reduce the risk of wildfires and fight climate\nchange. Reduce wildfire risk by removing excess biomass and turning it into Biochar\, a carbon-rich\nmaterial that supports regenerative agriculture. \nThank you to our series sponsors the Rotary clubs of Chelan\, Cashmere\, East Wenatchee\, Wenatchee\,\nWenatchee Confluence\, and Wenatchee Sunrise for helping make this series possible. \nREGISTER HERE
