SUMMARY:Environmental Film & Lecture Series: The Bluebird Man
DESCRIPTION:Al Larson was one of the first citizen scientists to take up the North American Bluebird Society call to action in 1978. Since then\, the 91-year-old has developed a string of 300 nest boxes in the remote Owyhee Mountains on the Oregon/Idaho  border. The film captures the dedication of this conservationist as he monitors every stage of the breeding process from nest building to egg laying\, hatching\, and finally the fledgling of the bluebird chicks. While celebrating the    success of this remarkable man\, the film addresses the struggle to inspire the next generation of citizen scientists. \nThis film is being sponsored by North Central Washington Audubon Society. \n

DESCRIPTION:The 38th annual Regional High School Art Show opens today. This popular exhibit highlights the best work of art students from throughout North Central Washington. The show is juried\, with top winners in several categories advancing to competition in Olympia. The art show is cosponsored by North Central Educational Service District and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. Admission is free all day on the first Friday of every month\, and hours are extended to 8pm with light refreshments offered after 5:00. The exhibit continues through May 6\, with the exception of “best of show” pieces sent to Olympia.

This time local director\, coach and performer Cynthia Brown reads “The Frog Prince Continued\,” by Jon Scieszka. \nOnce the princess kisses the frog\, he becomes the prince and they live happily ever after. But what if they didn’t? What if life with a former frog is annoying? What if being a prince is not as fun as being a frog? \nThe journey to return to life as a frog is an adventure itself. The prince finds himself second guessing his thoughts about life and the princess. \nCynthia Brown is a Wenatchee native who is rarely seen on stage\, but she has been a long-time improvisational comedy coach and performer. She also played a landlady in “Cabaret\,” a housekeeper in “Mary Poppins\,” and a real-life character “People of Our Past.” She has been the Drama Club advisor and musical director for Eastmont High School since 2012. \nThe dramatic reading will be followed by a craft.

SUMMARY:Jake Lodato brings Clyde Pangborn to life
DESCRIPTION:Clyde Pangborn enthusiast Jake Lodato brings to life the aerial stunt pilot best-known for achieving the first nonstop trans-Pacific flight in a living history program. A $5 donation is requested. \nIt’s a role Lodato first played earlier this year as part of the museum’s “People of our Past” program.  A retired Air Force Reserve jet pilot\, Lodato moved to the Wenatchee Valley in the mid-1970s with his wife\, Kathy. While working locally as a fruit broker\, his interest in all things aviation led him to Pangborn’s story. \nLodato is a charter member and chief pilot of the Spirit of Wenatchee Project\, a group of builders and flyers of the Miss Veedol\, a replica Bellanca aircraft the group flies to air shows and fly-ins in an effort to raise the profile of Pangborn and Herndon’s remarkable achievement. \n

DESCRIPTION:We hope you have been to see our newest exhibit\, Beacon of Friendship: the Arts and Culture of our Sister City in the main gallery. Among the highlights are an interpretation of a Japanese tea house\, a rock garden\, kimonos\, and huge selection of artwork. Notably\, there are a series of prints telling the story of the 47 Ronin. \n  \nDid you have a seat in the “tea house” that Curator of Exhibits Kasey Koski created? Come back when you have some time to really take it in. Have a seat on the zabuton–the traditional floor cushion. Relax. Dabble with the water-based calligraphy brush. Fold paper to create your own origami creature. Or write a haiku. Instructions for all of those are right in the display. \n  \nThe exhibit is in our main gallery and will be on display through February 11\, 2017.
