DESCRIPTION:As part of Wenatchee’s Fourth of July celebration\, the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center will host two showings of the 2013 documentary “You Don’t Need Feet to Dance.” This inspirational film\, suitable for all audiences\, tells the story of West African musician Sidiki Conde who learned to dance despite losing his legs to polio as a child. Conde is one of the artists featured in the museum’s current exhibit “Extraordinary Ordinary People.” The film will be shown on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, with admission by donation.

SUMMARY:First Friday Reception
DESCRIPTION:Closing reception for “Consider Becoming a Wenatchee Naturalist” exhibit. Admission is free all day and refreshments will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibit uses photographs\, specimens and nature field journals to illustrate the joys and contributions of volunteers who have taken the annual Wenatchee Naturalist class. These trained volunteers lead field trips through local landscapes and assist with conservation projects such as stream restoration. The exhibit was created in cooperation with the Wenatchee River Institute and Chelan-Douglas Land Trust.

DESCRIPTION:Finnish-American kantele player Wilho Saari will share his love of Finland’s national instrument as part of the museum’s “Extraordinary Ordinary People” exhibit. The program will begin with an informal meet & greet\, with Wilho discussing the kantele\, a stringed instrument similar to the zither. He will perform several traditional and original tunes on a variety of kanteles. Members of the Wenatchee Valley Museum are especially encouraged to attend the performance\, but all are welcome.
