SUMMARY:Images of America: Cascadian Hotel Author Talk
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we talk to the authors of Images of America: Cascadian Hotel live on Zoom on Thursday\, November 12 at 6 PM. The authors will discuss historic events tied to the Cascadian Hotel\, their research process\, and more! This talk is free\, but registration is required. Please register to receive the Zoom log-in information. \nREGISTER HERE\nBook Description: \nOn August 9\, 1929\, the Cascadian Hotel opened in Wenatchee\, Washington\, the “Apple Capital of the World.” It was (and still is) the tallest building in town. The opening ceremony—featuring a human spider scaling the facade—celebrated the coming to town of a technologically innovative and luxurious hotel that\, for its 42-year existence\, prided itself on quality service. The Cascadian had very strong ties to the community\, apple themes ran throughout the building\, and for years it was the go-to meeting place in Wenatchee. The hotel also served as the starting point for the hospitality careers of several men and women who rose to executive leadership positions in the international Western (later Westin) Hotels chain. \nAuthor Description: \nHelen J. Knowles is an associate professor of political science at the State University of New York–Oswego. This book developed out of her research for Making Minimum Wage: Elsie Parrish Versus the West Coast Hotel Company\, which tells the story of a US Supreme Court case involving the Cascadian. That book will be published by the University of Oklahoma Press in 2021. \nL. Darlene Spargo is the author of three books on local history. Images used come from numerous libraries and private collections.

SUMMARY:Courage in Corsets: Women's Suffrage in Washington
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with our featured exhibit Raising our Voice: Empowering Women\, we are partnering with Dangerous Women for a virtual discussion of the documentary Courage In Corsets on January 19 at 7 PM. After registering you will receive an email with a link to preview the film at your leisure and a confirmation email with a Zoom link to join us virtually for a Q&A Session with Dangerous Women on Tuesday\, January 19 from 7 – 8 PM. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Made in Wenatchee - Gelato Tasting Event with Ice at Pybus Market
DESCRIPTION:Join the Wenatchee Valley Museum to taste and savor gelato from Ice Visconti at Pybus Public Market. This virtual gelato tasting will take place on January 27th at 6 PM. \nThe tasting includes three gelato flavors: Panna (Sweet Cream)\, Chocolate and Lemon Sorbetto. \nICE Visconti prepares authentic Italian style gelato daily on location. Gelato is a popular frozen dessert of Italian origin. Like ice cream\, gelato is made from milk and served in a dish or cone. Because gelato is made with whole milk rather than heavy cream\, kept at a higher temperature\, mixed with less air\, and cooked before freezing\, you’ll enjoy a dessert that is lighter\, smoother\, fresher\, lower in calories and more flavorful. Sorbetto is made with sweetened juice\, fruit puree\, or water\, and is dairy and egg-free. \nRegister here:  61981.blackbaudhosting.com/61981/Made-in-Wenatchee—Gelato-Tasting. \nRegistration is $30 and each registrant will receive three – 8-ounce containers of gelato and the opportunity to participate in the live Zoom tasting.  Simply bring your confirmation email and pick up your gelato from Ice Visconti’s location at Pybus Public Market at 3 North Worthen Street in Wenatchee on January 27th during their regular business hours. \nYou will also later receive an email with the Zoom code and instructions for joining the webinar. \nA portion of the proceeds benefits the Wenatchee Valley Museum.

SUMMARY:Environmental Film & Speaker Series: Voices of Transition
DESCRIPTION:Join us in viewing the documentary Voices of Transition\, and participate in a follow-up Zoom Q&A Sessions with a local panel on Tuesday\, February 2 at 7 PM. \nPowered by the conviction that crisis can be a major catalyst for change\, Voices of Transition present paths towards a new model of human existence: one which is fair\, environmentally sound and fulfilling\, with soil and people supporting each other in a balanced and sustainable system. In England\, France and Cuba\, we meet committed communities who are successfully establishing local\, autonomous\, ecological food systems and\, in so doing\, are taking back control of their food supplies from multinational corporations. \nThe stories told by these diverse Voices of Transition carry an emboldening message: by working more closely with nature\, we can create incredible opportunities. And if we work together not only with nature\, but with other people\, we can change the world. \n  \nRegistration is by donation. After registering you will receive an email with a link to preview the film at your leisure and join us virtually for a Q&A Session with a local panel on Tuesday\, February 2 from 7 – 8:30 PM. \n  \nREGISTER HERE \n  \nSpecial thanks to our sponsor: Sustainable Wenatchee\, a 501(c)3 non-profit that works to promote a culture of environmental stewardship and social sustainability in North Central Washington. \n \n  \nThis film is a part of the Wenatchee Valley Museum’s Environmental Film & Speaker Series. Sponsorship support from foundations\, community sponsorships\, and individual giving allows us to offer these programs free to the community. This series helps connect our community to the world around us\, raise awareness of issues impacting the environment upon which we all depend\, and identify actions our community can take to improve and sustain our world and our Valley. \nPlease consider supporting the Wenatchee Valley Museum by joining us as a member and donor.
