SUMMARY:CANCELLED: Film & Speaker Series: Landfall
DESCRIPTION:DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES\, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.  \nThe 2025-26 Film and Speaker Series presents: Landfall \nThe Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center is honored to host a screening of the award-winning documentary Landfall on Thursday\, April 9\, at 6 PM. \nFilm Description: \nThrough shard-like glimpses of everyday life in post-Hurricane María Puerto Rico\, LANDFALL is a cautionary tale for our times. Set against the backdrop of protests that toppled the US colony’s governor in 2019\, the film offers a prismatic portrait of collective trauma and resistance. While the devastation of María attracted a great deal of media coverage\, the world has paid far less attention to the storm that preceded it: a 72-billion-dollar debt crisis crippling Puerto Rico well before the winds and waters hit. LANDFALL examines the kinship of these two storms—one environmental\, the other economic—juxtaposing competing utopian visions of recovery. Featuring intimate encounters with Puerto Ricans as well as the newcomers flooding the island\, LANDFALL reflects on a question of contemporary global relevance: when the world falls apart\, who do we become? \nFunds from this event support the Museum’s mission-serving programs\, including featured exhibits\, MakerSpace\, robotics clubs\, field trips\, student scholarships\, community cultural events\, film and speaker series\, and collection restorations.  \nLandfall is provided by Good Docs. The 2025-26 Film & Speaker Series is supported by the City of Wenatchee and the City of East Wenatchee.

SUMMARY:Wenatchee Valley Erratics: NW Gold Rush in the Big Bend
DESCRIPTION:April 14\, 2026\, the Wenatchee Valley Erratics present \n“NW GOLD RUSH IN THE BIG BEND” \nThe presentation speaker is Dr. E. F. Cater. \n– Doors Open at 6:30 p.m. – \nThis is a free event open to the public. \nLocated in the Performance Hall of the \nWenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center\, 127 S. Mission Street. \nVisit our website for more information. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGold—formed deep within the Earth under extreme heat and pressure—has captivated human curiosity for centuries. \nBut why gold? \nWhat makes this mineral so uniquely valuable that we still use it today\, even in something as small and precise as the screws in aftermarket body parts and electronic devices? \nIts rarity\, durability\, and resistance to corrosion set it apart. Gold doesn’t tarnish\, degrade\, or lose its luster—qualities that make it both scientifically remarkable and economically powerful. \nNowhere is this fascination more evident than in the \nBig Bend region of Washington State. \nFrom 1850 to 1920\, waves of hopeful prospectors surged into the area\, igniting recurring gold rushes year after year. The result was a frenzy of digging\, panning\, and relentless pursuit. \nYet nearly 89% of those seekers walked away empty-handed. \nWhy? \nMany lacked a fundamental understanding of the geology—how gold forms\, where it concentrates\, and the natural processes that hide it in plain sight. \nIronically\, traces of gold can be found scattered across much of the Big Bend\, but without knowledge\, even abundance can remain undiscovered. \nThis is more than a story about gold. \nIt’s a journey into the forces that shape our planet\, the lessons of those who came before us\, and the enduring human drive to go forth\, discover\, and understand.
