SUMMARY:Navigating Untold Stories: A Historical Fiction Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Navigate untold stories in this historical fiction workshop at the Wells House! \nOn Saturday\, Nov. 8\, 2-5 PM\, explore local stories from our shared past at the Historic Wells House\, with local English instructor\, Zach Eddy\, and learn new techniques to help guide you to a place of discovery\, while you navigate the blurry line between fiction and non-fiction. \nDiscover what stories hide in the gaps of the historical record. How did W.T. “Bill” Clark feel when he returned to Wenatchee dirt poor in the spring of 1933\, nearly thirty years after irrigating our Valley? What did the tense conversations sound like\, as the passenger train moved in and out of a smoke-filled Wellington tunnel\, some deciding to hike out in waist-deep snow before the deadly 1910 avalanche fell? What did David Thompson think to himself as he navigated the pre-dammed Columbia\, floating for the first time into what is now present-day Wenatchee? \nStudents will discuss who gets to tell the stories and why they matter today. If you attended this class before\, this will be a whole new adventure. \nThis workshop costs $10 for WVMCC members and students and $20 for non-members. Registration is required. \nREGISTER HERE \nZach Eddy received his MFA in Poetry at the University of Idaho. His writing has appeared in Outskirts Literary Journal\, OneArt: The Book of Jobs Anthology\, Northwest Review\, The Confluence Magazine\, and elsewhere. He teaches English Composition and Creative Writing at Wenatchee Valley College\, and he is the Operations Coordinator for the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center. \nDisclaimer\nThis class is located on the Wenatchee Valley College Campus at 625 Nelson Avenue. Unfortunately\, the Wells House is not currently ADA accessible. We apologize for the inconvenience.

SUMMARY:First Friday presents: A Doctor's War
DESCRIPTION:In honor of Veterans Day\, join us for a presentation on A Doctor’s War \nJoin us for an evening with local author Peggy Ludwick to discuss her book A Doctor’s War and the story of her father and local physician Lt. Col/Maj. Arthur L. Ludwick during First Friday\, Nov. 7\, at 6 PM. \nA Doctor’s War is one man’s resolute journey through the minefields of love and war\, as well as a daughter’s discovery of the young man she never knew\, before he became her father. As a Medical Officer on the frontlines of WWII\, our last “good” war\, Major Arthur L. Ludwick M.D. treated traumatized and wounded soldiers during the bloodiest battles of North Africa and Italy. \n“Although Dr. Arthur L. Ludwick was a beloved family physician in Wenatchee for over 50 years\, few people knew of his heroism on the frontlines of WWII\,” writes Peggy Ludwick. \nPeggy will also share excerpts from A Daughter’s Pilgrimage\, a travel diary of her recent trips to North Africa and Italy to retrace and witness her father’s routes and battlefields during WWII. \nSigned books of A Doctor’s War will be available for purchase. More information about A Doctor’s War can be found at adoctorswar.com \nThe entire Museum is free and open to the public every First Friday of the month\, from 4-8 PM.

SUMMARY:Día de los Muertos | Day of the Dead
\n\nENGLISH VERSION: Join the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center and the Hispanic Business Council for a Day of the Dead celebration on Saturday\, November 1 from 4 to 8 PM! \nThis free event is open to the public. Enjoy fun family craft activities\, local mariachi\, folklorico group performances\, face painting\, and purchase festive food in the Food Truck Court. \nFeaturing live performances by Eastmont Mariachi\, Sandy Zarate\, Mariachi Huenachi\, and SanZar Dance Company. \nEveryone is encouraged to bring photographs in honor of lost loved ones to display on our Community Altar. Cash is encouraged due to some food truck vendors only accepting cash payments. \nDay of the Dead is a tradition first practiced thousands of years ago by indigenous peoples such as the Aztecs and the Toltecs. They didn’t consider death the end of one’s existence but simply another chapter of life. Rather than grieve their dead\, ancient Mexicans celebrated the lives of the deceased and honored their memories. During Día de los Muertos\, observed Oct. 31- Nov. 2\, they believed the dead had a brief window to leave the spirit realm and visit their loved ones in the mortal world. Day of the Dead continues to be celebrated throughout Latin America and around the world. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. In Mexico\, traditions associated with the holiday include creating altars decorated with sugar skulls\, marigolds\, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed. In Brazil\, the holiday is known as Día de Finados and is marked by visits to cemeteries and churches. In Spain\, the day is marked by festivals and parades\, graveside observances\, and prayer for deceased loved ones. \nThis event is sponsored by Thriving Together and supported by Yanse Boutique and Yeyos Bakery.
