Presenting Sin Fronteras Latin Folk May 22
Sin Fronteras, or “without borders,” will present a concert at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center on Friday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. The program is associated with the museum’s new exhibit, “Extraordinary Ordinary People: American Masters of Traditional Arts.” Admission is free, with donations encouraged.
The Seattle-area trio performs in the nueva canción, or “new song,” social justice movement of Latin America that extols the common people. The music is rooted in the rural folk music of Chile. Band member Abel Rocha describes the music as having “vibrant rhythms, soulful melodies, and breathtaking harmonies – songs of life, humanity, and love.”
The musicians are originally from Chile, Colombia, and Mexico.
The exhibit and five associated live programs at the museum are co-presented by Northwest Heritage Resources with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, ArtsWA (formerly Washington State Arts Commission), Humanities WA, Finlandia Foundation and Michigan State University. The museum is located at 127 S. Mission Street in Wenatchee. For more information call (509) 888-6240 or visit www.wvmcc.org.
