Cannon Mine Talk

May 17, 2022 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Free – $10

Did you know there was a gold mine in Wenatchee?

The Cannon Mine was a joint venture of Asamera Minerals, Inc. & Breakwater Resources LTD.  The mine was a major producer of gold and the second-largest underground gold mine in the United States.

It produced 1.25 million ounces of gold and 2 million ounces of silver.  In 1994 the underground mining operations were closed and the mine was “plugged.”

Join us on May 17 at 7:00 pm for a special presentation about the Cannon Mine by Diane Groody.  Diane was one of 2 Asamera geologists on the original exploration crew that came to look for gold in 1981. She stayed after the discovery, through the development and operation of the mine until 1989 as the Underground Operations Geologist. She supervised the drilling, sampling, and mapping at the mine, gave input on ground and grade control, and calculated the reserves and royalty payments. She was the first and only woman mine geologist in the USA at the time.

This event is part of our Legendary Locales exhibit and is free for museum members.  Click here to register.
