“The Importance of Contemporary Art in NCW”

Gregg Schlanger cropMarita Dingus cropWondering what’s going on in the art world of North Central Washington? A great place to learn about the local art scene – artists, venues, styles, how to get involved – is at a free panel discussion this Saturday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. at Wenatchee Valley College. The event will be held in Grove Hall, in the Music and Art Center.

You’ll hear from WVC art department chair Scott Bailey; faculty member Natalie Schmidt Dotzauer; Wenatchee artist Robert Wilson; Seattle artist Marita Dingus (above, right); and Central Washington University art department chair Gregg Schlanger (above, left). Each of these creative people has contributed to the art scene and knows some tricks about getting one’s work out in the public eye.

It’s sure to be a lively discussion, especially when you get involved with your own questions or observations! The program is co-presented by WVC and the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center.

There’ll be a chance to view works by Marita and Gregg in the lobby before and after the program. Refreshments will be served.

Marita and Gregg are in town to judge the art pieces submitted for consideration in the museum’s NCW Juried Art Show. Artists wishing to apply for the show should bring their works to the museum on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The jurors will select the works for the show on Sunday.

For information on the speakers’ panel or the juried art show, contact museum exhibits coordinator Bill Rietveldt at (509) 888-6240 or [email protected].
