Executive Director Announces Resignation

Wenatchee, Wash. – (9/28/2021) Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center (WVMCC) Executive Director Keni Sturgeon announced her resignation from the museum. Sturgeon will leave her current position at the end of October, and will start in November at the Association of Children’s Museums leading their strategic initiatives. Since 2018, Sturgeon led the museum in collaborating with the board, staff, and community to create the museum’s 2020 – 2025 Strategic Plan, and capably shepherded the initial phases of implementation of the strategic plan. Under her leadership, the museum creatively addressed the constraints of the COVID pandemic, delivering high quality community-oriented programming that brought the museum into the homes and lives of Wenatchee Valley residents.

WVMCC Board President, Linda Haglund, said, “Keni was exactly what this museum needed the past three years. The Board of Directors wish her the best in her next endeavor and thank her with a grateful heart for her service to our museum.” Haglund added, “Her contributions have left us in a place where the strong board and talented staff are poised for success in the future.”

Museum Board of Director Vice President Kathleen McNalty said, “Sturgeon is well respected by the museum Board of Directors and local leaders for her deep understanding and love of museums in general, and the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center in particular.”

Sturgeon said of the transition, “This was a difficult decision to make, and it has been an incredible pleasure working with the board and the museum team over the last three years.”

Haglund added, “We look with hopeful anticipation for this process and finding the one to lead this organization into a bright future.” The search for a replacement for the executive director will begin immediately.
