Dance to the rhythms of Croatian folk music in this new dance class series!
Enter the world of Croatian folk music and dancing alongside Master Croatian folk artist Nicholas Petrish. Recipient of the Governor’s Award, Petrish has dedicated over half a century to preserving the dance called Lindjo aka Poskocica, and is the principle dancer, musician, singer and choreographer with the Vela Luka Croatian Dance Ensemble.
On Tuesday, June 24th at 6 PM, Petrish will give a talk sharing his passion for the art of Lindjo, the Balkan square dance unique to the villages surrounding the city of Dubrovnik. Afterwards, stay and watch or participate in a dance class, with musical accompaniment from Petrish’s handmade “Lijerica”, a three-stringed bowed instrument. This event is free and open to the public.
On Tuesdays, July 1 & 8, join Petrish in diving deeper into traditional Croatian dancing. All ages welcome! Sneakers are not recommended. Guests are encouraged to bring a comfortable pair of loafers, dance shoes, or pumps. Each class is $12 for members, and $15 for non-members. Pre-registration is recommended.
