Re-Analysis of Windust Phase Artifacts from the Rock Island Overlook Site, Chelan PUD: Thursday, June 22, 4 – 5 pm at the Wenatchee Valley Museum
Artifacts from archaeological excavations in the Wenatchee area in 1974 were recently re-analyzed revealing evidence for Native American activity older than the ancient East Wenatchee Clovis Cache that made headlines in the late 1980s. Protein residue analysis of projectile points revealed that hunters targeted Pleistocene horses before horse extinction about 12,700 years ago. Join Chelan PUD and archaeologist Terry Ozbun of Archaeological Investigations Northwest, Inc., for presentation of new information on the estimated age of archaeological materials and their implications for understanding Ice Age lifeways in the Wenatchee area.
This program is hosted by the Chelan Co. PUD. It will be free and open to the public.
