Super Summer Adventures: Session 5

July 22 @ 9:00 am - July 25 @ 3:30 pm

Grades 1 – 2: Blast Off

We will take a closer look at Jupiter, Mars and Mercury and find out what they are made of and how they compare to Earth. Blast off with us as we experiment with gravity and build amazing flying machines and rockets.

Grades 3 – 5: LEGO Robotics I

Join the museum’s Robotics Coaches, Lara Hays and Adam Walker, as they introduce you to the basics of LEGO Mindstorm robotics programming. Learn how to build a LEGO robot and make it move! They will also show you how to use First Lego League competition skills, which include core values and task completion.

Grades 5 – 7: Chess 101

We will learn the basic rules of chess, including how the pieces move. We will talk about what a “check-mate” is, and how that differs from “taking the king”. We will learn the ABC’s of getting out of check, basic development strategy, and techniques in getting a checkmate. Students will participate in their own tournament, where they will get a chance to win medals or key chains.

Grades 1 – 2: Edible Story Time

Do you ever get hungry after reading books like “The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle or “If you Give a Mouse a Cookie” by Laura Numeroff? Explore the many ways authors take a journey through delicious, literary adventures as we create our own snacks to eat after being inspired by the books we read!
