Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are an important support system for the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center and serve in many capacities. From one time special projects to on-going involvement, volunteer help the museum deliver essential services to the community. This section provides a general overview of a few of the volunteering opportunities available here at WVMCC:

Volunteer Qualifications:
Volunteers must possess interest in and enthusiasm for sharing regional history, culture and arts, and a strong commitment to supporting the mission of the Museum. Volunteers working with the public must enjoy engaging visitors and have strong customer service skills. There are many different opportunities to assist the museum by using your diverse skills and experience. Ask us how you can help!

JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Exhibit Host
Assisting the public, this volunteer helps Museum visitors experience exhibits to their fullest potential, and provides a visible security presence in the exhibits. An Exhibit Host must possess a strong interest in learning about regional history, culture, and art, and enjoy sharing that interest with others.

Hours:
Choose hours based on your availability anytime from Tuesday through Saturday – 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Shifts are typically 3 hours but other arrangements can be made.
Special events as needed

Desired Job Skills:
Enjoy interacting with people in a positive and clear manner
Ability to stand, walk and climb stairs
Ability to monitor visitors and correct behavior to protect exhibit artifacts from damage
Working knowledge of the Museum’s second floor and apple exhibit (training and support provided)

Job Duties:
Exhibit Host teams will be stationed primarily upstairs where the majority of displays are located. Periodically, Hosts will monitor and assist visitors by providing information, assisting with equipment and answer questions about displays. Hosts provide a visible security presence in the exhibits.

Job Training:
Exhibit Hosts are required to attend an initial half-day training to learn techniques, security and safety procedures, and specifics of the second floor and apple exhibit. Hosts may also be required to attend a one-hour training on changing gallery exhibits 2-3 times each year.

LOBBY HOST
This key customer service person greets and interacts with Museum visitors, handles money, and processes Museum admission and gives visitors a brief overview of the museum as orientation. Lobby Hosts may assist in the museum store, keep the area tidy and help the receptionist with duties.

Hours:
Tuesday through Saturday – 10:00 am – 1:00 pm OR 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Desired Job Skills:
Customer Service and Sales experience is a plus in this job!
Greet and welcome Museum visitors in a professional and friendly manner
Answer general questions about the Museum, the Wenatchee area, and/or provide tourist information brochures to visitors
Interact positively and clearly with Museum visitors
Operate a computerized point of sale system, accurately and securely, handle transactions (half-day training provided)
Answer the telephone in a friendly and professional manner

Job Duties:
Collect Museum admission fees
Actively assist Museum visitors in a friendly manner
Remain current with Museum membership benefits, exhibits, and upcoming programs.
Track and record visitors
Record Museum store sales receipts, input purchase into cash register, and make correct change
Maintain a working knowledge of Museum store merchandise. For example, who are the local artists represented in the Museum Store? What local history books are available? How does store merchandise relate to exhibits throughout the Museum?
Assist Museum receptionist with various office duties
Attend training and workshops as scheduled

Job Training:
Lobby Hosts are required to attend an initial half-day training to learn Museum history, policies and procedures. Lobby Hosts will also learn specific skills pertaining to the point of sale system, recording, museum general information and answering the telephone.
